Rohde & Schwarz and MediaTek have partnered to successfully verify MediaTek’s 5G RedCap (reduced capability) test platform, as defined in 3GPP Release 17. The next Bluetooth® release is expected to be ratified soon. One important new feature is the Unified Test Protocol (UTP) Test Mode for Bluetooth® Low Energy, that will complement existing test methods. The UTP Test Mode will additionally enable over-the-air (OTA) controlled device testing, which will simplify measurements of small and highly integrated devices enormously, since no direct wired connection to the tester is needed. Rohde & Schwarz and Ceva, in close cooperation, have developed the world’s first test solution for this new test mode, making its debut at embedded world 2025.

A new family of Rohde & Schwarz power analyzers is now available in three models to meet all requirements for measuring voltage, current, power and total harmonic distortion on both DC and AC sources. The R&S NPA101 power meter provides all basic measurements, the R&S NPA501 power analyzer adds enhanced measurement functions and graphical analysis, and the R&S NPA701 compliance tester includes evaluation functions in line with IEC 62301 and EN 50564 for power consumption and EN 61000-3-2 for EMC harmonic emission testing.

Rohde & Schwarz has upgraded its industry leading R&S SMW200A vector signal generator and its midrange counterpart, the R&S SMM100A. With significant enhancements in error vector magnitude (EVM) performance, the evolved R&S SMW200A is a robust choice for both 5G NR FR3 research and high demand RF applications like power amplifier testing. The instrument now also includes a new RF linearization software option, which uses digital pre distortion to optimize EVM at high output power. In collaboration with the Berkeley Wireless Research Center (BWRC), the test and measurement expert has successfully characterized a TX/RX multi-antenna chip (CHARM) operating at up to 140 GHz, using their D-Band over-the-air (OTA) test chamber. Academia and industry leaders agree that the 110 GHz to 170 GHz frequency range, known as D-Band, is critical for beyond 5G and 6G mobile communications and future automotive radar applications.
