Constellation Insight Tool for NR-NTN testing

The Rohde & Schwarz Constellation Insight Tool can be integrated with the CMX500 one-box tester to enhance testing for non-terrestrial networks (NTN).

Designed to support you with NR-NTN testing, this software is great for working with large constellations, analyzing coverage issues and observing satellite constellation behavior. Just set the user equipment (UE) location and select from our predefined satellite constellations or create your own.

What it does:

  • Provides a comprehensive visualization of all available satellites within a chosen constellation, with the possibility of focusing on specific satellites based on user interest
  • Offers temporal visualization of visible satellites to help identify coverage issues over time
  • Displays key fading parameters, including path loss, Doppler shifts and signal delay
  • Simulates the deployment of selected satellites on the CMX500 for further analysis

Challenges of NR-NTN testing

NR-NTN satellites operate in low earth orbit (LEO). The smaller coverage areas of LEO satellites require more frequent handovers to maintain continuous service. Depending on the geographical location, interorbit handovers may also be necessary. Accurate knowledge of satellite and user equipment (UE) positions and velocities (ephemeris information) is essential for effective link management and compensating for signal impairments. Additionally, long-term testing scenarios are complicated by manual deployment and handover processes, which can introduce errors, cause delays and demand significant resources.

The Constellation Insight Tool addresses these challenges by providing intuitive visualization and management of satellite constellations and UE locations. It allows for automated deployment and handover, integrates precise ephemeris data to simulate realistic mobility and impairment compensation and supports complex handover scenarios. When used in conjunction with the CMX500, the Constellation Insights Tool streamlines the configuration and deployment of NR-NTN systems, reducing manual intervention and enhancing the reliability and efficiency of NTN testing and management.
