Over-the-air (OTA) beamforming applications

Ensure optimal beam steering and beam directivity

With specialized Rohde & Schwarz testing solutions

Beamforming antennas are very different from traditional antennas as they typically use phased arrays with a high number of individual antenna elements. All these elements need to work perfectly together to form an RF beam with the desired characteristics. Over-the-air (OTA) testing helps engineers verify the correct beam pattern and supports the process of minimizing sidelobes.

Faulty elements that appear, due to the electronic supply of the signal or a bad connection, reduce the overall effectiveness of the antenna array. A quick and easy verification of individual elements, while examining the entire running array, is a unique approach to ensure the best overall performance. Rohde & Schwarz offers dedicated solutions that meet all testing needs quickly and reliably.

OTA characterization of beamforming antennas

The small footprint of the R&S®ATS1000 antenna test system makes it the ideal direct far-field OTA system to test phased array antennas. The system tests and optimizes the radiation characteristics of any module using the AiP technology from 18 GHz to 87 GHz.
