La banda ultraancha (UWB) es una tecnología de radiotransmisión de banda ancha de corto alcance especificada para la comunicación dispositivo a dispositivo y que opera en un espectro sin licencia. Es una tecnología de posicionamiento por radiofrecuencia que permite realizar mediciones de distancia «peer to peer» precisas y seguras entre dispositivos móviles. Ofrece fuerte resistencia a las interferencias, mientras que consume muy poca energía y coexiste muy bien con otros sistemas de radiocomunicación. La UWB se utiliza para una variedad de diferentes aplicaciones, como por ejemplo, rastreo de recursos, pago seguro, rastreo de personal, servicios de localización en tiempo real, acceso sin llave, encendido del vehículo, entre otros. Según las previsiones de ABI Research habrá más de mil millones de dispositivos anuales que admitan UWB para el año 2026. Casi todos los smartphones que se comercialicen en el 2026 admitirán servicios UWB.Al hablar acerca del aspecto de prueba de un dispositivo que admite UWB, por lo general pueden adoptarse dos metodologías como en otros productos inalámbricos, ya sea el modo de prueba tradicional (llamado modo de prueba conducido) con conexión de RF cableada entre el equipo de medición y el dispositivo o el modo de prueba OTA (over the air) que se realiza en una cámara anecoica OTA. A veces, no siempre es posible o necesario realizar las pruebas en modo conducido debido a factores limitantes, por ejemplo, costo, espacio, complejidad y acceso directo a los conectores de RF del producto. En este caso, es inevitable recurrir al método de pruebas OTA. Además, las pruebas OTA reproducen la utilización del dispositivo en condiciones reales.En esta nota de aplicación se describe la solución de pruebas OTA de Rohde & Schwarz que abarcan pruebas de transmisores (Tx), receptores (Rx) y tiempo de vuelo (ToF) en entornos de pruebas automatizadas e inalámbricas. Los resultados de medición a lo largo de todo el documento se basan en el circuito integrado de UVW para automóviles NCJ29D5 de NXP Trimension™.
