In the evolving landscape of 5G networks, leveraging frequency ranges FR1 (0.41 to 7.125 GHz) and FR2 (24.25 to 71 GHz) has been pivotal. As the era of 5G-Advanced and 6G unfolds, a third frequency range is being discussed in global regulatory and industry consortiums worldwide. FR3, which is also known as upper-midband, spanning 7.125 to 24.25 GHz, will open a new frontier for mobile communication technology. Rohde & Schwarz technology plays a key role in enabling Qualcomm Technologies to show the readiness and effectiveness of the latest RF modem technology for FR3.

Together, Rohde & Schwarz and Sony Semiconductor Israel (Sony) have achieved the industry’s first 3GPP Rel. 17 NTN NB-IoT RF performance verification. They have also successfully validated PCT-based test cases. Both milestones contribute to the market readiness of NTN NB-IoT technology. At the MWC Barcelona 2024, Rohde & Schwarz will show a live demonstration of NTN NB-IoT testing at the company’s booth with Sony Altair’s NTN Release 17 IoT device.

Autotalks, a world leader in V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) communication solutions, has used test expertise and equipment from Rohde & Schwarz to verify the performance of their third-generation V2X chipset. TEKTON3 and SECTON3 were verified using the latest 5G-V2X capability of the R&S CMP180 radio communication tester. The two companies will present jointly a 5G-V2X test setup at Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona.

Rohde & Schwarz drives roll-out of NTN NB-IoT technology with new GCF-certified conformance test cases

At the recent Conformance Agreement Group (CAG) #77 meeting, Rohde & Schwarz has successfully verified the NTN NB-IoT test cases of work item 333 using its R&S CMW500 radio communication tester, allowing the Global Certification Forum (GCF) to activate the work item in their device certification program. Manufacturers of IoT chipsets, modems and end devices as well as test houses can now rely on the proven Rohde & Schwarz solution to bring next-generation IoT devices based on non-terrestrial networks (NTN) to the market, enabling ubiquitous connectivity on land, at sea, and in the air.

The Electronic Communications Office of Iceland (ECOI) has selected Rohde & Schwarz mobile network testing to assess and benchmark the performance, coverage and capacity of the country's three mobile network operators. The campaign is intended to ultimately improve the quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE) for the end users in Iceland, given the island’s challenging geography and climate. ECOI commissioned Rohde & Schwarz network analytics services to roll out a benchmarking campaign based on an internationally standardized, transparent process based on the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).
