Brief description

The wireless communications system (WCS) is built on an 802.1x Wi-Fi network. Controller based network management enables interruption-free handover of smartphones between access points. The Rohde & Schwarz smartphone has a mobile voice terminal app to provide the same operational capabilities as a fixed voice terminal.

Intuitive operation with voice terminal app

The WCS smartphone hosts a Rohde & Schwarz NAVICS app for the same full range of communications as a fixed voice terminal. The R&S NAVICS user and role concept is part of the NAVICS operation concept, which allows logging on with a user name and selected roles. Role based communications no longer require information about where a user is located on board. NAVICS routes any calls automatically to the proper end device.

Secure connectivity

Reliable and secure Wi-Fi network

A secure authentication service controls network access by only allowing devices with valid certificates to log into the WCS network. All content is encrypted.

Ruggedized and ATEX-certified

No operational degradation in rough conditions

The ruggedized form factor enables operation under rough conditions. The 5.0" multi-touchscreen is made of extreme shock and scratch resistant Gorilla glass. ATEX certification means the device can be used when close to potentially explosive environments.

Wireless network with single-cell architecture

The WCS network consists of Wi-Fi access points (AP) controlled by a centralized WLAN controller, which manages Wi-Fi access points so that the user cannot recognize the handover of a smartphone from one AP to another.
