Rohde & Schwarz has partnered with Bullitt and MediaTek to fully test and verify the world’s first satellite-to-mobile messaging 5G smartphone in line with 3GPP Release 17. The groundbreaking test solution from Rohde & Schwarz verifies that SOS messaging and two-way messaging work reliably in no-coverage scenarios via non-terrestrial networks (NTN) in line with 3GPP. At MWC Barcelona, a test setup is showcased at the Rohde & Schwarz booth featuring a rugged 5G smartphone from Bullitt with integrated MediaTek 3GPP NTN Rel.17 chipset as DUT.

Rohde & Schwarz and MediaTek have successfully verified new location based services (LBS) features for 5G NR as defined in 3GPP Release 16. These features will not only improve emergency caller location, but also support upcoming LBS-related use cases in challenging indoor and outdoor environments with both, satellite based and terrestrial technologies. Rohde & Schwarz has extended the R&S TS-LBS test solution to support these and other Release 16 network based positioning features.

At MWC Barcelona 2022 Rohde & Schwarz is showcasing its range of automotive 5G and C-V2X test solutions for development in the lab and verification in the field to ensure the performance and reliability of critical automotive communications. Further focus applications are UWB test solutions for R&D, certification and production as well as flexible GNSS simulation provided by Rohde & Schwarz.

A new regulation requires all smartphones sold in the European Union from March 2022 onwards to support caller location for 112 emergency calls. To ensure this feature, the devices must be compliant with several positioning systems as outlined by the European Commission. This application note addresses the diverse possibilities of interoperability between Rohde & Schwarz power sensors and Rohde & Schwarz signal generators. All current and many legacy Rohde & Schwarz signal generators offer the capability of directly connecting power sensors. This enables power measurements without the need of a base unit or separate PC to display the readings. Furthermore, sensors can be used for special tasks like filling a user correction table or continuously controlling levels at crucial points in the measurement configuration.
