The Auray O-RAN Testing and Integration Centre (OTIC) and Security Lab provides test, validation and integration services to a supply chain of open radio access network vendors. In their first successful certification of an O-RAN radio unit (O-RU) according to O-RAN ALLIANCE as part of the O-RAN Certification and Badging Program, Auray OTIC relied on the integrated solution for O-RU conformance testing by Rohde & Schwarz and VIAVI.

NTT DOCOMO INC. and Rohde & Schwarz have joined forces to set up the world's first ultra-wideband channel sounder for mobile communications exceeding 100 GHz. They conducted radio wave propagation experiments at frequencies up to 150 GHz. The frequency bands from 100 GHz to 300 GHz are expected to enable further high-speed and large-capacity communication for the next generation beyond 5G.

At the recent i14y Lab Summit 2022 in Berlin, Rohde & Schwarz has showcased as one of the lab’s partners its proven and powerful measurement instruments used to verify the conformance of O-RAN Radio Units and the end-to-end network performance. Led by Deutsche Telekom, the i14y Lab is an industry consortium aimed at accelerating network disaggregation and Open RAN by building a European and German ecosystem of vendors and system integrators. With research on the technology components for the future 6G wireless communication standard in full swing, the possibilities of an AI-native air interface for 6G also are being explored. Rohde & Schwarz, working with NVIDIA, is taking a step forward from simulations to implementing artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) in future 6G technology. At MWC Barcelona, the companies will present the industry’s first hardware-in-the-loop demonstration of a neural receiver, showing the achievable performance gains when using trained ML models compared to traditional signal processing.

While the new 5G technology is at the first stages of rollout, Rohde & Schwarz, the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, Heinrich Hertz Institute, HHI and the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics IAF are taking a step further with demonstrations in the terahertz (THz) frequency band, related to the 6th generation wireless mobile communication (6G). The collaboration has resulted in a wireless transmit and receive system operating between 270 and 320 GHz, with further frequency extensions for potential 6G bands already in preparation.

Kyocera has developed an innovative mmWave phased array antenna module (PAAM) that simultaneously creates multiple beams in different directions at different frequencies. These PAAMs can enable a wide range of 5G FR2 infrastructure installations, including site co-location of different operators running networks on different frequency bands, as well as critical infrastructure threat-sensing, homeland security, and other high-reliability applications.
