Configurable signal conditioning for R&S®ZVA/ZVT

The configurable R&S®ZVAX‑TRM extension unit is used with an R&S®ZVA/R&S®ZVT network analyzer to provide signal conditioning for demanding measurements on active devices under test. For example, it allows measurements on pulsed signals or noise figure measurements on transmit/receive (T/R) modules. Together with an R&S®ZVA network analyzer, the R&S®ZVAX‑TRM provides customized test sets for applications up to 24/40/50/67 GHz (restrictions on some options for the 67 GHz model).

Configurable test system

Flexible characterization of T/R modules

The R&S®ZVAX‑TRM is an extension unit for the R&S®ZVA/ZVT. The configurable external box adds hardware components required for transmit/receive modules or high-power testing. The base unit has two ports, couplers, and path access loops. Modules can be added as needed: output pre-amplifiers, combiners, pulse modulators, receiver pre-amplifiers. Uncoupling the options from the VNA protects it and maintains  full RF performance for the base unit when measuring without the R&S®ZVAX-TRM.

The T/R module characteristics can be measured in both directions, making bidirectional pulse measurements possible. High output power levels are standard, even with a fully configured R&S®ZVAX-TRM.

Signal access points to integrate external components and instruments

Measuring power or pulse profile calls for different test setups. To meet these requirements, the R&S®ZVAX-TRM offers the following:

  • Access to generator path (e.g. connect external power amplifiers)
  • Access to receiver path (e.g. connect attenuators for power measurements or to output signal to an external instrument)
  • Access to reverence signal (e.g. to utilize automatic level control)

The R&S®ZVAX-TRM extension unit in its base configuration supports high-power two-port measurements up to +43 dBm (pulsed signals) and can easily loop in external components.
For greater flexibility the R&S®ZVAX-TRM functions can be expanded with diverse options such as:
