Brief description

Military command and control in line with the STANAG 4406 NATO standard. The R&S®MMHS military message handling system covers broadband communications on land, via satellite and, above all, radiocommunications as specified in STANAG 4406 Annex E.
Exchanging information via radio networks requires taking specific radio characteristics into account, especially if limited bandwidth is available. Rohde & Schwarz has been developing and manufacturing radios for decades, acquiring extensive know-how that the company now incorporates into MMHS development.

Features & benefits

Strategic and tactical communications

Combination of wireline and radiocommunications networks

The R&S®MMHS enables communications between stationary land based units via LAN/WAN infrastructure, as well as broadband communications to mobile units via satellite. The Rohde & Schwarz implementation of STANAG 4406 Annex E specifies communications in small-bandwidth HF and VHF/UHF radio networks, enabling efficient use of radiocommunications networks.

Variety of message categories

Processing of messages via different communications paths

R&S®MMHS provides gateways to all common military message handling systems and formats including:

  •  STANAG 4406
  •  ACP 127
  •  STANAG 5066
  •  Email
The user drafts a message in a user agent. The system automatically generates the necessary message format based on addressee reachability, automatically selects the transmission path and sends the message.
The user agent presents all received messages independant of the receiving path.

Security requirements

Security from login to encryption

  • Authenticity of sender and message
  • Security against message manipulation
  • Protection against unauthorized access
  • Network security

Service messages

User support for standard radiocommunications scenarios

R&S®MMHS provides service messages that enable easy handling of frequently recurring tasks in radiocommunications scenarios.
Simplified and automated processes include:

  •  Radio circuit tests
  •  Handling of routing information in mobile networks
  •  EMCON management
  •  Radio transmission coordination
