La maggior parte dei tipi di convertitori è soggetta a condizioni di lavoro diverse, quali variazioni di carico, sequenze di avvio/spegnimento e variazione della tensione di ingresso. Oltre al circuito di controllo ad anello chiuso a retroazione standard, i controller integrati a modulazione di ampiezza di impulsi (PWM) offrono funzioni estese, come il controllo ad anello chiuso di feed-forward della linea e il controllo del soft start.

I convertitori di potenza con topologia full-bridge sono spesso utilizzati nelle telecomunicazioni e nei server che devono essere compatti, efficienti e sensibili ai costi, il che li rende più complessi. Le sequenze di commutazione di tutti i principali interruttori (switch) primari, compresi quelli del raddrizzatore sincrono, devono essere convalidate dopo la realizzazione del primo prototipo. Questa complessa attività di validazione richiede un'adeguata misurazione delle sequenze di commutazione, per evitare di attivare sequenze catastrofiche. La competenza e gli strumenti di misura adatti sono essenziali per identificare eventi inattesi nel processo di commutazione del convertitore.
