New compliance test automation software from Rohde & Schwarz for IEEE 802.3 cable assemblies allows for precise and time-saving compliance tests of high-speed cables and backplanes according to the IEEE 802.3bj, by, cd and ck standards. The R&S ZNrun vector network analyzer automation suite controls a vector network analyzer and a switching solution from Rohde & Schwarz to provide automated testing of high-speed Ethernet cable assemblies, considerably reducing the testing time and potential errors compared to manual Ethernet cable assembly test methods. Rohde & Schwarz demonstrates the solution for the first time at DesignCon 2022 in Santa Clara, California.

Kyocera has developed an innovative mmWave phased array antenna module (PAAM) that simultaneously creates multiple beams in different directions at different frequencies. These PAAMs can enable a wide range of 5G FR2 infrastructure installations, including site co-location of different operators running networks on different frequency bands, as well as critical infrastructure threat-sensing, homeland security, and other high-reliability applications. To ensure optimal beam steering and beam directivity of its groundbreaking product, Kyocera relies on CATR-based multi-reflector Over-the-Air (OTA) testing technology from Rohde & Schwarz.

Academia and key industry players have identified the D-Band, ranging from 110 GHz to 170 GHz, as a candidate frequency band for beyond 5G and 6G mobile communications as well as for future automotive radar applications. La small cell è una stazione base compatta di dimensioni più piccole e una potenza di trasmissione inferiore rispetto a quella di una tipica stazione base macro. Copre un'area relativamente piccola e serve un numero minore di utenti. Di solito, le small cell possono essere integrate nella rete mobile esistente. Con l'evoluzione della tecnologia di accesso radio, il ruolo delle small cell è cambiato. Ai tempi delle reti 2G/3G, il loro ruolo era quello di garantire copertura nei casi più difficili. In seguito, con l'arrivo dell'LTE, le reti non forniscono solo copertura, ma anche capacità adeguata. Le small cell sono state quindi utilizzate per fornire la capacità aggiuntiva necessaria senza utilizzare un'ulteriore porzione dello spettro radio. Ora, nell'era del 5G, gli operatori di rete utilizzano la densificazione come strategia importante per fornire senza servizi 5G universali, che anch'essi richiedono copertura, capacità e prestazioni. Con i casi d'uso che richiedono l'utilizzo dello spettro a onde millimetriche per i servizi 5G, ha senso utilizzare le small cell per la densificazione grazie alle caratteristiche di propagazione delle onde millimetriche stesse.In questa nota applicativa approfondiremo i requisti di test di una small cell durante l'intero ciclo di vita del prodotto, con particolare attenzione alla soluzione per il collaudo in produzione di una small cell (DUT) operante nella banda di frequenze FR2 (onde millimetriche) in ambiente Over the Air (OTA) per l'opzione 6 basata sul tester di comunicazione radio R&S®CMP200 e sulla camera OTA R&S®CMQ200. Il documento è completato da ulteriori approfondimenti sulle soluzioni di test utilizzate nelle tipiche applicazioni di test in ambienti di ricerca e sviluppo verso la seconda metà della nota applicativa.
