Rohde & Schwarz has upgraded its industry leading R&S SMW200A vector signal generator and its midrange counterpart, the R&S SMM100A. With significant enhancements in error vector magnitude (EVM) performance, the evolved R&S SMW200A is a robust choice for both 5G NR FR3 research and high demand RF applications like power amplifier testing. The instrument now also includes a new RF linearization software option, which uses digital pre distortion to optimize EVM at high output power. The R&S SMM100A has also been upgraded with improved EVM capabilities.

Together, Rohde & Schwarz and Sony Semiconductor Israel (Sony) have achieved the industry’s first 3GPP Rel. 17 NTN NB-IoT RF performance verification. The R&S TS-RRM and R&S TS8980 test platforms were approved for every type of NTN NB-IoT test (RF, Demod and RRM), making Rohde & Schwarz the only company to have activated both NTN NB-IoT radio frequency (RF) and radio resource management (RRM) work items (WI) in the GCF.

For a fully automated verification of a PCIe x8 cable, for instance, the software controls a setup with R&S ZNB vector network analyzer plus scalable R&S OSP switch matrix configuration, creating a multiport VNA solution with 64 test ports. The solution reduces testing times for PCIe x8 cables to just a few minutes for complete test runs with all Thru and all crosstalk combinations plus corresponding metric calculations for Pass/Fail evaluations. By comparison, manual testing takes several hours and involves major risk of connection errors by test engineers.
