Rohde & Schwarz and Pegatron 5G showcase new O-RU test solution based on the PVT360A at MWC 2025Rohde & Schwarz and Pegatron 5G present a test setup optimized for O-RU production testing. The demonstration at Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona is based on the PVT360A performance vector tester from Rohde & Schwarz characterizing the Pegatron 5G PR1450 O-RU. It shows the flexible adaptability of the PVT360A to a variety of setups – all in a small form factor. The performance vector tester is now available with a new high-power option, also showcased at MWC 2025.

New R&S SMW200A and R&S SMM100A vector signal generators feature significantly improved EVM performanceRohde & Schwarz has upgraded its industry leading R&S SMW200A vector signal generator and its midrange counterpart, the R&S SMM100A. With significant enhancements in error vector magnitude (EVM) performance, the evolved R&S SMW200A is a robust choice for both 5G NR FR3 research and high demand RF applications like power amplifier testing. The instrument now also includes a new RF linearization software option, which uses digital pre distortion to optimize EVM at high output power. The R&S SMM100A has also been upgraded with improved EVM capabilities.

Manufacturers of IoT chipsets, modems and end devices as well as test houses can now rely on tried-and-tested Rohde & Schwarz solutions for 387 5G RedCap test cases in all device production stages, from early R&D to type approval conformance testing.

Rohde & Schwarz announces unique 56 GHz and 67 GHz frequency options for R&S SMW200A vector signal generatorRohde & Schwarz has introduced not just one but two new maximum frequencies for the R&S SMW200A vector signal generator, bringing previously impossible high performance to digitally modulated signals up to 67 GHz and beyond. The R&S SMW200A is first to enable flat frequency response and 2 GHz modulation bandwidth above 44 GHz. In addition to all applications already supported up to 44 GHz, the 100 kHz to 56 GHz option covers all currently used 5G frequencies, plus earth-to-satellite applications. The 100 kHz to 67 GHz option also supports planned higher frequency 5G bands, the 60 GHz WiGig band, and inter-satellite links.

New R&S NRP90S(N) power sensors for RF power measurements up to a ground-breaking 90 GHzRohde & Schwarz, the only supplier of fast diode sensors for power measurements up to 67 GHz, is increasing the maximum measurable frequency of diode power sensors to 90 GHz; higher than any other diode sensor currently available. The diode technology enables extremely fast and accurate power measurements with the highest sensitivity from a compact and light-weight portable instrument. High speed power measurements are now possible for all frequencies above 67 GHz in 5G, automotive radar and satellite communications applications including the entire E band.

An additional option empowers the extension of signal analysis even up to 54 GHz. The high-speed analyzers for lab and production are ideal for 5G NR testing – now also supporting the full FR2 frequency range up to 52.6 GHz and applications in the aerospace & defense industry. Rohde & Schwarz drives 6G with sub-THz channel propagation measurementsThe development of sub-THz communications as envisioned for 6G will only be possible with a solid understanding of the properties of electromagnetic wave propagation. The new frequency range between 100 GHz and 330 GHz gains worldwide interest and thus has been the focus of recent Rohde & Schwarz measurement campaigns. The company’s findings have contributed to the report of the ITU-R Working Party 5D (W5PD), which will provide information to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) World Radio Conference 2023, where frequency bands beyond 100 GHz are expected to be discussed and considered for allocation.

Rohde & Schwarz together with Fraunhofer Institutes HHI and IAF join forces in researching 6G at THz frequenciesWhile the new 5G technology is at the first stages of rollout, Rohde & Schwarz, the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, Heinrich Hertz Institute, HHI and the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics IAF are taking a step further with demonstrations in the terahertz (THz) frequency band, related to the 6th generation wireless mobile communication (6G). The collaboration has resulted in a wireless transmit and receive system operating between 270 and 320 GHz, with further frequency extensions for potential 6G bands already in preparation.
