5G New Radio (NR) è una tecnologia radio definita dal 3GPP e rilasciata per la prima volta nella release 15 delle specifiche tecniche 3GPP. È stata progettata per tre casi d'uso: banda larga mobile potenziata (eMBB), comunicazione massiva tra macchine (mMTC) e comunicazione ultra-affidabile a bassa latenza (URLLC). Fra questi tre casi d'uso, l'eMBB rappresenta in realtà un'ulteriore evoluzione della comunicazione mobile a banda larga rispetto allo standard LTE. In base ai requisiti tecnici prestazionali definiti da IMT-2020, con l'implementazione della tecnologia 5G le velocità di picco dei dati delle applicazioni eMBB dovrebbero raggiungere rispettivamente 20 Gbps in downlink (DL) e 10 Gbps in uplink (UL). I casi d'uso tipici dell'eMBB sono le applicazioni affamate di dati, come lo streaming video 8K ad alta risoluzione, la realtà virtuale (VR), la realtà aumentata (AR), ecc.La verifica di un'apparecchiatura utente (UE) in grado di funzionare con il 5G rispetto al massimo throughput di dati raggiungibile in condizioni di test controllabili e deterministiche è un processo essenziale durante la fase di progettazione del prodotto.
