Part 1: An introduction to electromagnetic spectrum operations (EMSO) environmental generation engineering
The electromagnetic spectrum operations (EMSO) domain encompasses critical aspects of modern warfare, involving the exploitation, attack and protection of assets within the complex and dynamic modern electromagnetic environment (EME). Electromagnetic warfare (EW), a subset of EMSO, is evolving with the increasing complexity of the spectrum, to enable dominance within the electromagnetic environment. As a result, EW simulation is required to assess both newly built EW systems as well as upgrades to established systems that need to keep pace with advancing radar and jamming technologies. However, to understand EW environmental generation, it is important to grasp basic concepts of EW.
This white paper is the first of a three-part series covering EME generation. It will discuss the basics, beginning with definitions and core concepts, moving into a more detailed technical discussion involving EME scenario generation and system implementation.
