In this talk, MediaTek presents a comprehensive look at the evolution of 5G-Advanced Non-Terrestrial Networks, focusing on enabling direct satellite connectivity for both consumer smartphones and next-generation vehicles. The session explains key technical challenges such as propagation loss, Doppler effects, and delay constraints across LEO and GEO systems, and compares different architectural approaches from narrowband IoT NTN to wideband NR NTN. It also showcases MediaTek’s pioneering work, including the first public 5G satellite IoT test, the first 5G NTN broadband automotive demo, and multiple world-first live NR-NTN connections over commercial LEO constellations. The result is a clear overview of how satellite–terrestrial convergence is reshaping global coverage and paving the way toward 6G.
