The latest software update to the R&S PWC200 plane wave converter (PWC) increases measurement accuracy and refines usability thanks to a new calibration method. With these updates, Rohde & Schwarz extends the possible use cases of its innovative 5G massive MIMO base station testing solution in R&D, quality assurance and production as well as conformance testing. While the software will be preinstalled in new units, existing R&S PWC200 units can be upgraded.

Rohde & Schwarz announced today the next breakthrough in 5G data performance: With support of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., Rohde & Schwarz has validated 10 Gbps end-to-end (E2E) IP data performance using its R&S CMX500 5G radio communication tester platform. The setup was powered by Snapdragon® X65 5G Modem-RF System, the world’s first 3GPP Release 16 modem-RF system with Qualcomm® QTM545 mmWave Antenna Module.

Mobile network testing (MNT) and cellular network analysis (CNA) have many use cases that overlap but require different antennas. Together with our R&S®TSMx mobile network scanners, Rohde & Schwarz has several antennas for all types of measurement campaigns. Typical network scanner applications include coverage and signal quality measurements for network verification, optimization, troubleshooting and benchmarking. Network scanners are also used for MIMO, network synchronization, interference and drone based RF measurements.

With the R&S®NRQ6-K3 phase coherence option, the R&S®NRQ6 power sensor offers a simple solution to perform outstanding phase coherent measurements as required e.g for beamforming and massive MIMO applications.

Massive MIMO and beamforming in 5G base stations impose stringent requirements on ADC and DAC sampling clocks and the LO signals in 5G base stations. The video demonstrates a clock generator and an RF synthesizer from IDT and shows the measurement of the phase noise, contributed by these components.

Rohde & Schwarz and Broadcom have successfully validated the R&S CMP180 radio communication tester for production testing of the latest Broadcom Wi-Fi 7 access point chipsets. A Wi-Fi 7 test setup with the R&S CMP180 and a Broadcom Wi-Fi 7 device will be demonstrated at the Rohde & Schwarz booth at the Mobile World Congress 2023 in Barcelona.

Massive MIMO and beamforming in 5G base stations impose stringent requirements on the clock generator, delivering the SYSREF and sampling clock signals to the ADCs and DACs in the various transceiver chains. The video demonstrates a clock generator from IDT and shows the measurement of time alignment and delay adjustment of SYSREF and sampling clock signals.

MIMO analysis The RTP oscilloscope can use up to 4 external frontends to acquire the respective IF signals for further analysis. Here we use two FE44S external frontends to test a 5G FR2 signal at 28 GHz. Signal analysis is performed by the R&S VSE software running directly on the RTP oscilloscope.

Over-the-air (OTA) testing for 5G NR devices usually results in high measurement distances – particularly for mmWave frequencies and massive MIMO devices. The video discusses various solutions to significantly reduce the measurement distances in order to achieve a compact test setup for mobile device and base station OTA testing.
