In a world where seconds count, air traffic control (ATC) communications systems must be as reliable as they are secure. Rohde & Schwarz is redefining the standard for mission-critical voice communication with the launch of the latest generation of its field-proven CERTIUM VCS , a cutting-edge VoIP solution that sets a new benchmark for resilience, security, and usability in ATC.
In response to the aviation industry's escalating challenges, including increasing air traffic density, rapid technological advancements, and heightened security concerns, CERTIUM VCS redefines the standards of ATC voice communications. Built on a proven peer-to-peer VoIP architecture, this state-of-the-art solution ensures the highest availability even during disasters or cyberattacks, thanks to its distributed intelligence and geo-redundant services.
CERTIUM VCS provides seamless air-to-ground and ground-to-ground communication, while ensuring compliance with EUROCAE ED standards, including ED136, ED137A/B/C, and ED109A. The system's architecture is fully based on modern IP protocols but still allows easy interconnection with legacy infrastructures through the flexible CERTIUM Gateways portfolio.
With its distributed intelligence and with no central point of failure, CERTIUM VCS stands out as the most resilient VCS on the market, capable of scaling from small tower installations to cross-border area control center (ACC) operations. CERTIUM VCS is engineered for maximum resilience and has multiple backup mechanisms allowing system upgrades without downtime, dual network connections for added reliability, and a virtual center feature that can combine up to 10 individual VCS systems. Key applications, like radio and telephony servers, can run on private cloud infrastructures, making it easier to scale and manage data.
“Rohde & Schwarz continues to lead the ATC sector with more than a decade of experience in full IP communications. As a leader in ATC communications, we are committed to providing solutions that enhance operational efficiency and safety for ATC operators worldwide. The new CERTIUM VCS is a testament to this commitment, reinforcing Rohde & Schwarz position as a market leader alongside its renowned CERTIUM Radios portfolio” explains Marius Muenstermann, Vice President Air Traffic Control at Rohde & Schwarz.
Rohde & Schwarz will present the CERTIUM portfolio at CANSO Airspace World in Lisbon from 13 to 15 May 2025. For more information about the latest generation CERTIUM VCS or to register for a meeting at Airspace World, please visit our website (https://rohde-schwarz.com/vcs).
