Rohde & Schwarz vector network analyzers have an integrated SCPI recorder. The picture shows the R&S®ZNB3000.
Your task
When using test and measurement equipment like VNAs, programming via the standard commands for programmable instrumentation (SCPI) is essential for development, verification and production teams. However, developing test automation from scratch can be a painstaking process involving extensive reference to the user manual. Users must find the right SCPI command and apply the precise syntax for each measurement step. The task can be timeconsuming and prone to errors.
Rohde & Schwarz solution
To simplify test automation implementation and boost productivity, selected Rohde & Schwarz VNAs (see table) include the SCPI recorder as a standard feature. It automatically generates SCPI command sequences from user instrument operation. It makes developing test automation easy and efficient.
Process description
The recorder is activated with a touch of a button and captures any sequence of commands and settings until the process is complete. The command list can be viewed directly, replayed, saved and accessed for future use.
When activated, the SCPI recorder automatically logs every operation that the user executes on the instrument, whether on the touchscreen or keypad, including all parameters entered. For additional guidance, the SCPI recorder shows context-sensitive help for each SCPI command in a separate window. After recording, the list of recorded commands can be saved and exported into several major programming languages such as C++, Python and MATLAB.
