Understanding VHF Propagation

VHF is widely used in broadcasting, voice and data communications, avionics, and even some types of radar, but there is a widely held misconception that most VHF propagation is simply “line of sight.” This presentation addresses this misconception by introducing the most common forms of propagation at VHF (refraction, reflection, diffraction, and scattering) as well as less common but equally important modes such as tropospheric ducting, meteor burst, sporadic E, and EME. Numerous illustrations and practical examples are provided, and the presentation will be followed by a live question and answer period.
