Rohde & Schwarz USA’s critical infrastructure business unit is expanding and seeking talent with networking and software system integration experience. This opening is for a Quality Engineer to support our Air Traffic Control (ATC) programs. Strong candidates will have experience with IP-based voice communication systems, be goal oriented, and customer focused. The position is based in the Maryland area; ideally candidates will be based either in Columbia or Frederick and will need to travel back and forth between these two areas frequently. The Quality Engineer will play a critical role in developing and maintaining our Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO standards and customer-specific requirements. This position will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance product quality, streamline processes, and ensure compliance with industry regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in quality assurance, process improvement, and problem-solving.

Your tasks

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to continuously improve the quality system.
  • Ensure all essential areas of QMS and Change Management are documented according to ISO standards and customer-specific requirements.
  • Participate in the maintenance of ISO registration and other quality system requirements.
  • Create instructional materials and training programs to ensure effective training in QMS and Change Management.
  • Document process and product non-conformities, follow up on corrective actions, and initiate preventive measures.
  • Maintain the corrective/preventive action program, track open actions, and report on metrics.
  • Conduct internal audits of critical operational and QMS processes to confirm compliance with business and ISO requirements.
  • Assist departments with root cause analysis and corrective action identification and implementation.
  • Lead and support cross-functional project teams to enhance productivity, reduce waste, improve quality, and enhance safety.
  • Create, track, and report on quality performance metrics relevant to business success.
  • Evaluate potential suppliers and address supplier performance issues effectively.
  • Liaise with managers and staff to ensure the QMS is functioning properly.

Your qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in quality management or a related Engineering field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a quality-related position.
  • Proven experience in process-based auditing, root cause analysis, problem-solving, and process improvement techniques.
  • Technical knowledge of statistics, quality control tools, and inspection methods.
  • Familiarity with CAD, GD&T, FMEA, or APQP.
  • Experience with formal process improvement tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications related to electronic products.
  • Experience with AS9100 or similar quality management systems.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • AS9100 Lead or Internal Auditor certification preferred.
  • ASQ certification (CQE, CQM, and/or CQA) preferred.
  • Experience in a Lean Manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience in a regulated aviation environment preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • In order to be considered, external candidates must be a US person capable of receiving a U.S. Government public trust clearance.

The total compensation for this position is $70K-$110K. Total compensation includes base salary, variable pay (when applicable) plus benefits. The range is determined by the position, geographic location and level. Individual pay within the range is determined by several factors including location, education or training, relevant work history, sales incentive structure and job-related skills.
