Enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) is the use case of 5G NR which supports the ever-increasing end user data rate and system capacity, as mobile devices integrate more and more internet-based services and applications. At MWC21, T&M specialists Rohde & Schwarz and VIAVI Solutions will demonstrate a 5G NR eMBB end-to-end test scenario in 5G SA mode (standalone 5G) exceeding for the first time a high-speed data throughput of 7.5 Gbps. The demonstration paves the way for upcoming data rates up to 10 Gbps. This high throughput rate means mobile subscribers will soon benefit from 4K video streams or augmented reality.

Rohde & Schwarz and MediaTek have successfully verified new location based services (LBS) features for 5G NR as defined in 3GPP Release 16. These features will not only improve emergency caller location, but also support upcoming LBS-related use cases in challenging indoor and outdoor environments with both, satellite based and terrestrial technologies. The Global Certification Forum (GCF) has approved the first two radio ressource management (RRM) conformance test cases for 5G FR2 frequencies, implemented on the R&S TS-RRM-NR 5G RRM conformance test system from Rohde & Schwarz. The test cases have been validated in seven FR2 and LTE band combinations. With this success, Rohde & Schwarz is leading the way in validated test cases for the technically challenging FR2 mmWave frequency bands.

Rohde & Schwarz fulfills the certification entry criteria (CEC) for a greatly increased number of the Global Certification Forum's (GCF) work items (WI) and PCS Type Certification Review Board (PTCRB) requests for 5G FR1 RF conformance testing. Thanks to 572 new GCF validations and 215 new PTCRB validations for the R&S TS8980FTA 3A, the updated version of the leading RF test system R&S TS8980 can now perform a broad range of 5G device certification tests.
